RAMEN

Ramen, three bowls in one night

Sapporo is where miso ramen was invented, and the city still argues about who does it best. Our tasting tour walks between three shops in one evening and orders a small bowl at each, so you get three different broths instead of filling up on one.

CITY VIEW

A ropeway and a small cable car take you to a deck above the treeline, about thirty minutes from the centre. The grid of Sapporo lights up below with the Ishikari plain behind it. Clear winter nights are the sharpest, and the last car back runs late.

PARKS & FESTIVAL

Odori Park, and the Snow Festival

大通公園と雪まつり

Odori Park cuts the city in half for a dozen blocks: lilacs in spring, beer gardens in summer, illumination in December. Every February the same strip fills with the snow and ice sculptures of the Sapporo Snow Festival, and hotels book out months ahead.

RED BRICK

Red brick, and what to bring home

赤れんがとおみやげ

The former Hokkaido Government Office and the Sapporo Factory brick halls sit within walking distance of the station. It is also the easiest place to pick up the things Hokkaido is known for — dairy, crab, corn, sweets — before you head to the airport.

Hokkaido is large and the trains do not go where the good places are. Every tour we run is private to your group, in our own vehicle, with a nationally-certified driver. You are picked up at your hotel and dropped back at it, and the route can change on the day if the weather does.

01 — SAPPORO — PRACTICALITIES

Practicalities

Before you go to SAPPORO

Best season: All year. Lilacs and beer gardens in summer, the Snow Festival in early February, illumination through December.
Getting there: New Chitose Airport is the gateway; the city centre is roughly an hour away by road. We run a flat-rate private transfer door to door.
Time needed: A full day covers the city itself. Two nights lets you add Otaru or Noboribetsu without rushing.
Getting around: Central Sapporo is walkable and has a subway. A vehicle matters once you head for Mt. Moiwa, Maruyama or out of town.
Good to know: Ramen shops in Susukino are small and mostly cash-friendly rather than card-first. Winter pavements are icy — bring grip, not just warmth.
